Random Reflections on Purpose behind
the ‘No Fear for the New Year’” Sermon Series

(… in no particular order!)

Larry - So that all of us would in one or more of the following ways:

·      Reflect on my own decision-making process so that the primary motive for decision-making is not fear.

·      Be able to identify my fear-based reactions in any and all circumstances and situations.

·      Be willing to elp others deal with their fears.

·      Pause and see God at work in the midst of my fears.

·      Grow out of some fears (overcome).

·      Understand some fears that I may not be able to shake (manage).

·      Recognize that there are positive components to fear: respect, honour, awe, worship, obedience, etc.

·      Understand the negative components of fear: fright, flight, fight, paralysis, paranoia, etc.

·      Recognize how North American culture promotes fear: media, programming, news coverage.

·      Not be a slave to my fears.

·      Pursue the full adventure of being a follower of Jesus, aware of the risk and the reward.

·      Not be hostage to my fears.

·      Not be handicapped by my fears.

·      Not be paralyzed by my fears.

·      Be able to talk about my fears freely with select individuals.

·      Understand the effect on those I love of my negative reactions to fear.

·      Understand that I cannot control the circumstances around me, but I can control how I respond to those circumstances as they arise.

Pick one and start there. Remember, one step at a time!
